1. Director Tarsem Singh was behind Jennifer Lopez' The Cell from 2000, as well as the upcoming Greek mythology-based film Immortals starring the new Superman Henry Cavill, as well as Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Frida Pinto and Stephen Dorff.
2. Julia Roberts plays the Evil Queen and will have to contend with comparisons to Charlize Theron's rendition a few months later. There are various comments around the internet that Roberts has been typecast contrary to how her brand is sold in the media. From a comfortable distance, I find that amusing, but that sucks for the people who work under her, if the rumors are true.
3. Julia Roberts remains one of the the most bankable actresses of the last 25 years. If you consider the last 35 or so years, you have to consider the recently resurging Meryl Streep's track record during her ingenue days. Between the two of them, they've been steadily bringing in audiences since the late 1970's. Strangely, they have never acted together, though there is a possibility that may happen with the TWC-produced adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County. This has been a source of a lot of grumbling on the internet, but, frankly, I'm excited about the project if it happens. It's a pretty great play and while they both may not be perfect for the respective roles, they're hardly bad choices. Their commercial appeal could turn playwright Tracy Letts' efforts into a huge hit. We'll have to wait and see if the film goes forward.
4. Armie Hammer plays Prince Andrew Alcott. He made a name for himself as 3/4's (two faces, but only one body) of the Winklevoss twins in last year's The Social Network after appearing on TV's Gossip Girl. He will also play opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood's upcoming J. Edgar. Contrary to popular belief, Hammer is not related to the Arm & Hammer conglomerate. His great grandfather was oil tycoon Armand Hammer, the name derived from the "Arm and Hammer" symbol of the Socialist Labor Party his great great grandfather Julius Hammer was a committed member of.
5. Lily Collins plays Snow White. Still relatively unknown, she has appeared in The Blind Side, Priest, Abduction and TV's 90210 reboot.
6. Kind of looks like a Tim Burton affair? The art direction here is spectacular. Let's hope it's not Alice in Wonderland.
